Welcome to The Long Beach Community Garden

Important Notice

The Board of Directors of the Long Beach Community Gardens state that no board member opposes an East Side Dog Park.  The board does oppose the establishment of a Dog Park next to the western boundary of the Community Gardens.  Our opposition is based on two major concerns:
1. Health and safety factors* that could affect our 300+ gardeners and the several Long Beach charities that receive daily donations of produce from the gardens.
2. Increased traffic with the attendant noise and pollution.

*Water borne runoff after rainstorms containing urine and feces.  Increased filth fly population landing on feces and then flying into garden and landing on produce.

  1. You must have your six (6) Community Service Hours completed by the end of the work party on June 2, 2012 in order to renew your membership.    There are NO Community Service Hours given after the June 2nd work party and you will not be able to renew your membership if you do not have your 6 hours of Community Service.  Please keep your work hour slips that are given at the end of each work party as these are your proof of your work hours.  If you do not have the work hour slips for renewal LBCGA records will be used to determine work hours.  Dates for Work Party and Plot Inspection by Members for 2011and 2012 will be Sept 19; Oct 1; Nov 5; Dec 3, 2011; dates for 2012 are Jan 7; Feb 4; March 3; April 14; May 5 and June 2,  2012.  This dates are subject to change so please watch the main information board.  Work Parties start at 7:30 AM for 2 hours with  Monthly Board Meeting at 10:00 AM for which all members are encouaged to attend.
  2. Excess Dirt:  Bag it and take it home and/or put in a trash bin. Do Not Put Dirt in the Orchard or in the manure pile.
  3. We have a mouse and rat problem that will eat your plants and crops so please set large snap traps in your plot.  Also helps for you to move your compost bins as they live under them, do not leave crop in plot and cut your crop up off the ground. And it also helps to put hoops up and cover with netting, weighing sides down.  Just remember, NO POISON ALLOWED!
  4. Berry bushes are a great attraction for grasshoppers; also corn and sunflowers attract squirrels.
  5. Return wheelbarrows to the corners and turn them up so water doesn't collect.  Please do not leave them in your plot or at trash bin full.  The large wood carts are for chips and garden trash only, NEVER for manure.
